The agreement setting phytosanitary rules for Portuguese pear exports to China is complete.
Portugal has completed negotiations with Chinese authorities to open the pear export market to China, according to the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV). The agreement with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) establishes the phytosanitary conditions required for Portuguese pears to enter the Chinese market.
However, the registration of orchards and packing facilities on the GESFITO Phytosanitary Prevention and Control Management platform will only apply beginning with the 2026 production season. Until then, DGAV is working to finalize the technical and inspection procedures needed to put the protocol into effect.
