Exports of Fruits & Vegetables generated USD 3.45 billion in 2017 and will continue to grow thanks to a selection of varieties, the application of high technology and the development of post-harvest conservation treatments.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is forecasting growth of +2.2 to + 2.3% for total export revenue, or more than $ 21 billion. For the Fruits & Vegetables sector, which recorded revenues of $ 3.45 billion in 2017, up by 40.5% from the previous year, the focus this year will be on even more profitable crops.
Industrial crop areas (coffee, tea, cashew nuts, etc.) will be reduced to increase the area of approximately 930,000 hectares dedicated to fruit. These crops will be more profitable for export through variety selections, high-tech applications, adoption and the development of post-harvest conservation treatments.
