The prices for carrot go up

share
Ukraine
Monday 23 April 2007

The demand for the premium quality carrot has strongly increased in Ukraine. This is the reason why the holders of quality products increase the sales prices. The specialists note, the quantity of carrot supplies augment on market this week. However, the point is that the majority of carrot is of medium and low quality; this product usually meets a weak demand. The thing is, most carrot producers do not have the specialized storages, so that the produce quality rapidly deteriorates especially when the spring is coming. Presently the producers deliver carrots of a mostly poor quality. Often, this carrot is sold out for the minimal prices (as of today for up to US $0.1-0.16/kg) and the resellers have problems to sell out the planned quantities. At the same time, the moderate volumes of the quality carrot go on coming from the specialized storages; the resellers are able to increase the sales prices in view of a great demand for this product. At the same time, the resellers are gradually increasing the prices for the carrot prepared to the pre-sale handling (the chain stores mostly purchase this product). At present, the general price range for premium quality carrot is US $0.24-0.32/kg in Ukraine. Further price growth in this segment is possible.
