An increase in the area under cultivation, combined with improved farming practices, have enabled Pakistan to boost its potato production. The harvest for the current season is expected to exceed 8 million tonnes.

In 2022, China was the world's No. 1 producer, with 95.6 million tonnes of potatoes. Next in line were India with 56.1 million tonnes, Ukraine with 20.9 million tonnes, Russia with 18.9 million tonnes, the United States with 17.8 million tonnes and Germany with 10.6 million tonnes. Then come Bangladesh with 10.1 million tonnes, France with 8 million tonnes, Pakistan in 9th place with 7.79 million tonnes and the Netherlands in 10th place with 6.9 million tonnes.
