Chile now ranks as the world’s second-largest consumer of Hass avocados.
The 2024–2025 avocado season marked a major milestone for Chile’s fruit sector, reaching a total production of 240,000 tonnes. This is the strongest harvest in 15 years, second only to the 2009–2010 season, when 290,000 tonnes were recorded, according to the Chilean Avocado Committee data.
Favorable weather conditions, improved fruit set, and the adoption of advanced agricultural technologies in new regions helped exceed earlier forecasts. The result reflects both optimal growing conditions and continued innovation across the industry.
According to sector data, 57% of the harvest was exported, with Europe leading as the top destination at 77,000 tonnes. Other key markets included Latin America (34,000 tonnes), Asia (8.6%), North America (8.5%), and Oceania (0.8%).
The remaining 43% stayed in Chile, a record share for the domestic market, confirming avocado’s strong popularity among local consumers. Chile now ranks as the world’s second-largest consumer of Hass avocados, averaging 8.6 kg per person annually.
Industry leaders highlighted the sector’s commitment to sustainability, which has been a priority since 2020. Current efforts are aligned with the UN’s 2030 Agenda, focusing on responsible farming practices and community wellbeing.
The season also demonstrated the growing economic value of Chile’s avocado sector, which generates over $700 million annually and supports a wide and diverse production chain.
