For asparagus and table grapes, Peru has recorded high yields according to FAO data.
According to data from FAO, the United Nations Food Organization, Peru has one of the highest yields in the world for intensive crops.
For table grapes, for example, Peru has an average productivity of 24.7 tonnes per hectare, putting the country ahead of Chile (20 tonnes) and the United States (17.3 tonnes).
Peru is also the world leader in asparagus, producing 11.8 tonnes per hectare, surpassing Mexico (8.7 tonnes per hectare), Chile (5.5 tonnes per hectare), Argentina (4 tonnes per hectare) and the United States. (3.6 tonnes per hectare).
Unlike these intensive crop sectors, small farms in the country have one of the lowest yields per hectare of potatoes, coffee and maize. The average national potato production did not exceed 15 tons per hectare, while Chile exceeds 21 tons per hectare and the Netherlands manages to exceed 50 tons per hectare. The main reason is the low use of fertilizers.
