Following a very satisfactory first half, exports are expected to reach record levels, both in terms of volume and value.
Fruit exports increased by 16% in value during the first half of the current year, reported the Ukrainian Institute of Agriculture and the Economy.
In the first half, Ukrainian exports of apples and pears increased by 75% to 42,000 tons. Nut exports increased 74% to 33,000 tonnes. Frozen fruit exports increased 28% to 18,000 tonnes.
The EU buys about half of Ukraine's fruit and berry exports. In the first five months of this year, Ukraine's food exports to the EU increased by 37% to € 3.1 billion. The main buyer countries are Turkey, France, Poland, Belarus, Italy, Greece and Germany.
There is strong demand in the berry market, especially for strawberries and raspberries. Exports to the EU are expected to increase further.
