Exploding capacity of Hamburg Shipping Line

The Hamburg-Sud Shipping Line, member of the Oetker Group of Companies, will expand its transportation capacity with an investment of EUR 1.7 bn 2008-2011 for ships and containers.
According to Klaus Meves, chairman of the Board of Directors, there are actually 17 ships on order with a capacity of 104,000 TEU. “This”, he added, “is the biggest investment programme in the history of Hamburg Sud, which dates back to 1871. In 2007 the company, which is active in the line business as well as in the tramp trade, shipped 2.1 million TEU, 17% more than 2006.
