Organic food market to increase
Ireland
Thursday 14 December 2006
The organic food market in Ireland still lags behind Europe but governments policies and greater public awareness are giving it a boost.
The sector grew about 25% per year between 1993 and 1998. Since then, the European Union estimates that it has grown by around 30% each year.
The recognition of the organic sector is improving, and becoming increasingly popular among a more environmentally and health-conscious public.
In 2005, land area under organic production increased by 15%.
