Russia lifts European vegetable restrictions
MD
The Russian Federal Service for disease control has authorized the resumption of imports of vegetables from Hungary, Italy and France.
Since July 25th, vegetables from these countries are no longer under embargo. They join the vegetables from Belgium, Greece, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic which had already gained entry into the Russian territory.
The Russian Sanitation Service (Rospotrebnadzor) said imports were subject to a "special regime" with the Russian laboratory requiring certificates indicating the origin of vegetables, indicating that that they are not carrying the strain of the deadly bacteria Escherichia coli (EHEC).
The European Union annually exports 1.1 million tonnes of vegetables to Russia, worth 600 million euros, according to the European Commission.
