Gas-tight doors: the safest way to save fruit and money
Netherlands

Storing at Ultra Low Oxygen levels (ULO) and Controlled Atmosphere (CA) circumstances means being able to offer fresh and sound fruit months after harvest time, resulting
in much more attractive margins and also in higher demands on the method of storage.
The biggest problems in sealing for ULO and CA cells usually lie in the gas-tight doors and windows. That is why the minimum oxygen levels in the cells are generally 3%.
However, by using Salco gas-tight doors, levels of 1% can be achieved, making it possible to store fruit for an additional three months. The secret lies largely in the patented inflatable sealing, which also solves any problems concerning deformations and irregularities of
floor and wall. Also the application of special profiles, sealing materials and control possibilities play an important part. And on top of that of course the vast experience and expertise that Salco has developed in many important fruit countries. Salco gas-tight doors are internationally authoritative. Nearly all Dutch vegetable and fruit auction halls use Salco gas-tight doors, as do thousands of growers.
