Downward spiral for the price of strawberries

According to data from Freshuelva the price of strawberries  recorded a decrease up to 20% compared to the price of the previous season, which was already not good. A peak of output combined to other factors (economic, climatic) have reduced prices on European markets.

The situation becomes critical, the sale price remains below the cost of production. The price is down to 0.80 or 0.90 euro per kilo on the wholesale markets, while the cost of production is between 0.90 and 0.95 euro. To cover costs and cover the investments made, the price should be 1.5 euro per kilo.

The market of strawberry is traditionally saturated on Tuesday after the Easter weekend, no recovery possible before that date.
