Spanish cherry adds China to its export destinations

Currently, Spain can already export to China other fruits such as peaches, plums, nectarines, grapes, citrus fruits, persimmons and almonds.
Spain has signed a new agreement with China that will allow the export of cherry to this Asian country. The protocol was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and the Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Sun Meijun.
This signature will facilitate the application of the phytosanitary requirements demanded by China to enable exports. Interested companies will have to register in a list to be provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and pass an audit to comply with the conditions imposed, according to Spanish media.
Currently, Spain can already export to China other fruits such as peach, plum, nectarine, grape, citrus, persimmon and almond.
In 2024, Spain exported 39,968 tons of cherry, of which 84% went to European Union countries, and the rest to non-EU markets.
