Favourable weather drives winter vegetable surge in Khulna

Full harvesting is expected to finish by early December.
Khulna has recorded another strong winter vegetable season, with output valued at Tk 2,858.83 crore (around US$244 million), according to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Favourable weather, improved seed quality and technical support from the DAE and research institutes have driven the high yield. Banks and NGOs provided loans and interest-free credit, helping farmers expand cultivation across Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira and Narail. Growers say stable prices and rising demand — both domestic and export — encouraged them to increase planting, especially for early winter varieties.
This year’s production reached 714,707 tonnes across 30,365 hectares, averaging 23.54 tonnes per hectare. District totals include 176,022 tonnes in Khulna, 251,252 tonnes in Bagerhat, 213,180 tonnes in Satkhira and 74,073 tonnes in Narail. Farmers report strong returns, with vegetables selling at around Tk 40 per kg (US$0.34).
The DAE expects full harvesting to finish by early December, noting that surplus vegetables are already being supplied to Dhaka and exported to Italy, England and South Korea. The production target for the 2025–26 season has been set at 729,305 tonnes.
