NEGP is lowering its estimation of production

NEPG expects 23 million tons of potatoes for 5 countries, 5.1% less than the average production over the last 5 years.
The NEPG (North-Western European Potato Growers / Group of potato producers of Northwest European) adjusted its production estimation around 23 million tonnes, representing 5.1% less than the average production over the last 5 years.
The overall increase of surfaces in 5 countries will not compensate for unfavorable growing conditions. The surface of potatoes is estimated in an increased by 4% compared to 2012, mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands. But planting conditions and growth have not been optimal, with the start of the season too cold and wet, followed by a hot and dry summer.
Germany expects a harvest of 13.3% lower than the average of the last five years, followed by the Netherlands to -9.5%. In Germany, it could be the smallest crop ever recorded. In Britain, a first estimate of the production will be released in November only, so that the NEPG is based on the country, for production in 2013, on the average of the last five years.
Overall the continental countries of NEPG, the quality is at the rendezvous, however with a non-excessive average size. The dry matter contents are good and could allow better industrial performance.
