Greenhouse tomatoes of Canada are requested to face the loss of the 70 % of Florida harvest
Having undergone 11 frosty days and having lost 70 % of the harvest, the Florida have seen increase the price by three.
The Canadian producers can benefit from this deficit in the American production by marketing their tomatoes of greenhouse, and also to respond to an important demand in the sector.
“This is just a reality of agriculture, that especially when you grow crops outside, it’s very unpredictable and we have to deal with the weather, and that’s the one benefit that greenhouse growers have, is they're a little bit more predictable because they've got less of those environmental factors to play with,” said Mr George Gilvesy, general manager of the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers.
