Belgium is the No. 1 worldwide of products processed from potato products.

Belgium surpassed the Netherlands, Canada and the United States.

Spectacular growth in recent years for the processing sector, which rose from 500,000 tonnes in 1990 to 3.65 million tonnes in 2012. Belgium became the first world producer of processed potato products, exceeding the Netherlands, Canada and the United States.

Needs for raw materials follow the same growth and the demand for Belgian industrials is much higher than the national production. This year Belgium has recorded an increase of 12,000 additional hectares (+11.8%) of the surfaces of potatoes.
