Andalusia is the global leader in cherimoya

The Spanish region of Andalucía is the world leader in both production and surface area of its tropical fruit grown in the region of Grenada and Malage.

Andalucía region has 3 000 hectares producing about 40,000 tons of cherimoya for an estimated $ 48 million. This production is sold mainly in the Spanish market , only 10 to 15% is exported , mainly to Portugal , the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

On the consumption side , 4 in 10 Spanish does not know that fruit and does not know that the country is the world's largest producer . The average consumption is less than 1 kg per person at national level, and a little over 2 kg per person for the only region of Andalucía.
