In Russia, at this time of year, potato stocks are still at high levels after a record harvest.
Russian media report that during a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture, the organization of potato growers discussed a temporary limitation on the domestic market for potato imports.
Russian production totaled 18.7 million tons of potatoes in 2022, or +4.3% compared to the previous year. But in wholesale, prices varied by -37.3% compared to those practiced at the beginning of February 2022. Farmers expected the opposite situation with prices on the rise and according to estimates 40 to 60% of harvest from individual farms are still stored in warehouses.
This problem of marketing Russian potatoes may lead to a reduction in sowing and the volumes produced for the next harvest, alerted Rusprodsoyuz, the intersectoral association of manufacturers and suppliers of food products.
