Not enough seasonal workers according to British professionals who feel that they will not be able to harvest all of their production.
In Great Britain the asparagus season is short, usually taking place from April 23rd to June 24th. This year with the uncertainties surrounding Brexit, seasonal workers are fewer, which threatens the harvest of asparagus.
Every year the UK fruit and vegetable sector has up to 80 000 seasonal workers from other EU countries. But for 2 years the candidates have been fewer and British professionals have missed for each season about 10,000 workers.
With the Brexit set for this year, there were even fewer seasonal job applicants. British professionals believe that this is a major crisis for British agriculture. Without seasonal workers, agricultural companies will not be able to harvest all production.
