New varieties to improve food security

The Andes helping the Pacific Islands by sending nearly 70 new varieties of potatoes and sweet potatoes to improve food security.
SPC 's (Secretariat of the Pacific Community 's) and CePaCT (Centre for Pacific Crops and Trees), based in Suva (Fiji) received 42 new potato varieties and 27 of sweet potatoes. Adapted varieties in sub-tropical climate , heat-resistant and resistant to some common viruses.These new potato varieties come from Peru , sweet potatoes come from Peru but also from Argentina, Bolivia and Ecuador .The varieties of sweet potatoes which are fast and early growth are an ideal crop in the rehabilitation efforts in case of an agriculture disaster .
