Chinese pear export volume has grown
Hebei exports more than 100 thousand tons of pears every year or up to 70% of China’s total export volume for the fruit, generating more than USD100 million of revenues. In recent years, export of Hebei pears has experienced rapid growth. Hebei pears’ export volume increased compared with the same period last year, selling to USA, Canada, Australia, the EU, SE Asia, Middle East, Mexico and South Africa etc
The major export destinations for Chinese pears were Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Russia. Pear exports to Indonesia experienced 293% growth year-on-year with total volume reaching 80 thousand tons. Less impressively, exports of pears to Hong Kong increased by 13% year-on-year. As for Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Russia, pear exports decreased slightly.
According to the Hebei Tianbo Industry & Trade Co. Ltd - member of «Choice Fruit Alliance» - an agricultural export company with its own brands «Tianbo» and «Bibo», that is well known all over the world as a supplier of high quality pears from Hebei province - export quantity of Hebei pears has been increasing year after year, especially to the South East Asian market. There are two main factors that played a big role in it: first is surplus production, because of it the price on the Chinese market was very low, which stimulated export. Second factor - Indonesia has implemented import quotas on fruit, such as apples and oranges, but not on pears. This means that Indonesian importers, who originally targeted Chinese apples or oranges, are now turning their focus to pears.
