Taiwan absorbs most of Japan's exported peaches

Taiwan is the largest export market for Japanese peaches, absorbing nearly 90 per cent of Japan's peach exports in 2006. Japan sold to Taiwan a total of 425 tons of peaches in 2006 which represents a 42.5 fold year-on-year growth. Of the total volume, almost 90 % were aupplied to Taiwan, at an average price of 5,24 eur per item. The most important peach producing region in Japan is Yamaguch prefecture. Officials from this area responsible for agriculture production hope that sale of peaches to Taiwan grow much more this year as a result of signed agreement with Taiwan.
In 2006, Japan exported a total of 24.948 tons of fresh fruit last year, with apples, peaches, grapes and strawberries topping the export list.
Japan's strawberries have mainly been supplied to Taiwan and Hong Kong, while most of the exported grapes were destined for Thailand and Singapore.
