Germany is the largest consumer of asparagus in Europe and also the largest producer.
Germans like asparagus and are the largest consumers as well as the biggest producers in Europe.
A few years back, two thirds of asparagus consumed in Germany were imported either from France or Greece. Faced with growing demand, farmers have increased growing areas and almost all regions of the country comprise of
asparagus fields.
Germany is now the largest producer in Europe with 92 000 tons, which puts it ahead of France that produces only 18,000 tonnes (in Aquitaine, the south-east, Val de Loire and Alsace).
