Only three years after the start of its exports to China, Egypt has tripled the volumes shipped and is now ranked third in the citrus suppliers of the Chinese market.
According to the Horticultural Export Improvement Association (HEIA), Egypt started exporting citrus fruits to China in 2015. In the first year the volume totaled 23,000 tons then 36,000 tons in 2016 and 101,000 tons in 2017.
That is a volume multiplied by 4.3 in a few years. This makes it possible to position Egypt as No. 3 supplier of China for citrus fruits, behind South Africa and the United States.
This amplification of demand for citrus fruit should continue according to analysts and also favor the success of other Egyptian products on the Chinese market.
