Cash support announced for Taiwan’s damaged mango crops

Farmers can apply through April 14.
Mango farmers in Kaohsiung’s Maolin District (Taiwan), where over 35% of the city’s mango crops are grown, can now apply for cash aid of NT$80,000 (approx. US$2,409) per hectare after prolonged cold weather severely damaged early-blooming fruit, according to local media.
The Kaohsiung city government, with support from Taiwan’s central authorities, will accept applications through April 14. Farmers with over 20% crop loss can submit claims using a disaster-reporting app and must provide ID, land documents, and bank details to apply in person at the Maolin District Office.
Cold snaps and extreme temperature swings this spring caused poor pollination and widespread flower drop, resulting in low fruit yields across southern Taiwan. Local officials have also made low-interest loans available and continue to monitor improved mango varieties for future support.
