Fraud in Hungary
Hungary
Wednesday 20 February 2008
The Economic Mission of Budapest has informed us that two French companies who have exported potatoes to Hungary have been swindled.
Before any export operation, please contact the Economical Mission in Budapest, who will check the notoriety of these Hungarian companies.
To summarize the facts, the fruit & vegetable exporters are contacted by a company who has its head office in Budapest (the last used cover names are: T-Fruit, Welker Comp). These companies have people who speak several languages (Spanish, Italian, English, and Mongol). They order first small quantities to put the supplier in confidence. Payment is always made in advance to reduce the risks, but the bank transfers are fictive. A copy of the swift is sent by fax to the supplier who sends the goods.
In the cited cases until now, it was a Hungarian company of transport who was taken in charge the routing of the goods probably sold in Budapest.
The fraud concerns at this stage all in all 1500 tons of potatoes of value 250.000 euro.
The last contacts of the companies with these "swindlers" (under the name of T-Fruit Kft) go back at today. Therefore, we can consider that they are still very active and that they will make other victims.
