Maoist rebels in the Philippines have reportedly attacked a major banana plantation owned by US fresh produce group Dole Food Co.
The attack, which reportedly took place on Wednesday (9 April) on the southern island of Mindanao, destroyed packing equipment on the 11,000ha site and was the second such attack this week, according to Reuters.
The guerrillas are suspected to be members of the communist New People's Army (NPA), which has declared its opposition to the exploitation of natural resources in the Philippines by foreign and local corporations.
Officials in the region fear more attacks could take place against foreign-owned businesses.
