Rice is the agricultural production most affected by the typhoon

Hayan typhoon that hit the Philippines ravaged many agricultural areas.
According to information from the FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) the production of grains is the most affected. Approximately 153,495 hectares of farmland which ravaged 77,467 hectares of rice and 20,951 hecatres of maize.
The typhoon caused in the central part of the country, damage to the rice harvest of the main crop of 2013, which was almost back. It also stopped the planting of the second season during 2013-2014, which ends in late December.
A production deficit of 900,000 tons is envisaged in the 5 most affected areas. National rice production for 2013 now stands at 18 million tons (18.9 million tons estimated earlier in the season).
