According to FEPEX estimates, Spanish fruit and vegetable exports are expected to record growth of 8 to 10% in volume and 5% in value for 2019.
Spanish fruit and vegetable exports in 2019 will amount to 13.5 million tonnes, an increase of 8 to 10% compared to the previous year, and will reach 13,400 million EUR, or 5% increase, according to estimates made by FEPEX on the basis of official data until October and a forecast for the months of November and December.
According to these estimates, vegetable exports will reach 5.5 million tonnes, with an estimated increase of 3.9% compared to 2018 for a value that will exceed 5.5 billion EUR, an increase of 7%. As for fruits, exports are expected to reach 8 million tonnes, 12% more than in 2018 and worth more than 7,700 million EUR.
FEPEX believes that one of the main challenges for the sector will be the exit of the UK from the EU and the future trade agreement to be negotiated between the two, the third destination for Spanish exports, as well as market access for third countries which, as in the case of the United States or China, apply extremely protectionist policies which severely limit exports.
