Peruvian exports of fresh mango from November 2020 to January 2021 totaled 127.114 tons, which means a decrease of -15 percent, compared to 148.282 tons shipped in the same period of the previous season.
In November 2020, Peruvian fresh mango shipments reached 9.000 tons (10.000 tons in November 2019); 41.576 tons were exported in December 2020 (52.817 tons in December 2019) and 76.538 tons in January 2021 (85.465 tons in January 2020).
The main destination markets for the fruit are the Netherlands and the United States, followed by Spain, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Canada, Chile and Russia among others.
The Peruvian Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (APEM) has forecasted export volumes of 207.000 tons for the 2020/2021 season, which means a decrease of -12 percent compared to the 235.000 tons exported in the previous season (registering an absolute record).
This drop is explained by lower production caused by climatic changes: the delays of up to 2 weeks in flowering due to the low temperatures registered in mid-2020, plus the drought that occurred in October, particularly in the northern region of Peru.
