Barcelona is the 1st most productive port in the Mediterranean and the 3rd most productive port in Europe, the Port Authority participates in Medfel STAND G09.
JOC's report (The Journal of Commerce) stressed the progress made by Barcelona regarding productivity in 2014.
For the first time, a Mediterranean port ranked among the top three in Europe in productivity after Bremerhaven (Germany) and Rotterdam (Netherlands). JOC positions Barcelona as the Gateway Port -port exporter- importer and most productive of the Mediterranean and reinforces in its aim to contribute to the competitiveness of the economy and the internationalization of its environment companies.
For the first 2 months of 2015, the container traffic in the port of Barcelona totaled 285,808 TEU (TEU equivalent to 20 feet), up 2% compared to the first 2 months of 2014. With regard to the goods transported by sea motorways (lines connecting the Catalan capital with several destinations in Italy and North Africa) the rate reaches 14%. This increase in the volume of traffic is due to the strengthening of some existing lines, with more ships, or by increasing the frequency of certain services.
