Australian imports of vegetables from China have tripled over the past 10 years.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Chinese imports increased in value of AUS $ 30 million (€ 22.2 million) in 2000 to 96,000,000 AUS $ (€ 71.09 million) in 2010.
The most imported products are dried vegetables, garlic, processed tomatoes, asparagus, beans, frozen sweetcorn, processed potatoes, fresh & frozen peas and fresh spinach.
This growth worries the Australian producers. The cheap Chinese products, if they continue growing, could eventually threaten the entire vegetable sector.
