In Madagascar, initial estimates predicted a late season, but very favorable weather conditions made the 2023/24 season a normal one.
Local media reported that the 2023/24 lychee harvest and export campaign officially began on November 21 for the Atsinanana and Analanjirofo regions. The volume exported is expected to reach 18,000 tonnes of lychees, 4,000 tonnes more than in the 2022/23 campaign.
According to the CTHT (Centre de Technique Horticole de Tamatave), the heavy rainfall recorded since October 30 across the entire collection area, combined with high temperatures, has accelerated fruit development in terms of diameter and ripeness.
