Interko unveils fifth-generation VTH cooler at Fruit Attraction 2026

Interko has launched a fifth-generation twin horizontal cooler, or VTH, for its Ultimo fruit ripening rooms, with upgrades focused on easier servicing, digital control and energy efficiency.

The new system was developed over two years and is built around Interko’s recently introduced digital data network.

Easier cleaning and maintenance

The redesigned VTH cooler now has a modular structure, making it simpler to clean, service and replace individual parts.

Components including the heater element and fans can be changed more easily, while the condensation drip trays can be removed, opened and cleaned.

The trays are also insulated as standard, allowing Ultimo rooms to work across a wider temperature range. According to Interko, this gives operators more flexibility when ripening tropical and exotic fruit alongside bananas, avocados and mangoes.

More control through data

Interko has added cooling energy sensors to the intake and discharge areas of the system.

The company says this data can help operators better understand the stage of the ripening process and adjust conditions to support more consistent fruit quality.

The VTH also connects with Interko’s digital network and is compatible with its RipePilot automated ripening system, creating more opportunities for digital monitoring and control.

Improved airflow and efficiency

The latest cooler also includes further development of Interko’s REVERSO reversible fan technology.

An updated ceiling design and two steel M-rails replacing traditional side curtains are designed to support more uniform airflow and improve operating efficiency.

The VTH can be used in single-tier, two-tier and three-tier Ultimo ripening rooms.

Interko is already installing the new system for a major international fruit company in Ireland.

Built on decades of experience

The fifth-generation model is the latest version of a cooler first developed by Interko in the early 1990s.

Managing Director and Partner Chris Maat said the company focused on simplifying the design and reducing the number of different components, making maintenance and spare-part replacement easier.

Digitalisation remains a key area of development for Interko as the company continues to expand its ripening and cooling solutions across Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

On show at Fruit Attraction

Interko is presenting its latest technology at Fruit Attraction 2026, which runs in Madrid until October 8.

The company is exhibiting in Pavilion 6, Stand 6E04.

During the three-day show, Interko is offering consultations for fruit ripeners, retailers, importers and distributors looking to improve ripening, pre-cooling and de-greening while keeping energy use and operating costs under control. Contact us for further information and business opportunities.
