CP Axtra retail group, number one Thai retailer

Owner of Lotus supermarkets and Makro cash & carry, CP Axtra consolidate its leadership position in the Thai retail grocery with fresh produce, omni-channel and private level as key drivers.

The first Thai retail group runs Lotus supermarket chains and shpping centers, Makro and Lots wholesale (cash & carry) stores. Present in 10 countries, it runs a total of 2,728 stores at the end of 2024. Its total revenues achieved 512 billion Baht or 13,8 billion euros. It progressed 4,3% compared with 2023 and generated 2,1% net profit. CP Extra added 10 new Makro cash & carry stores in 2024 (8 of them in Thailand) and 110 Lotus’s supermarkets (106 of them Lotus’s Go Fresh). In the last quarter of 2024 alone the group opened 5 new hyper and supermarkets which represented 15,500 added square meters, also 71 new “Lotus’s Go Fresh” convenience stores (+22,000 m2).


Fresh produce and private label the key drivers

Fresh food represents as much as  36,6% of the total revenues at Lotus and Makro stores in the first quarter of 2025 (1Q25) and progressed 2,4 points from 34,2% in 1Q24. They represented 46 billion Baht (1,24 billion euros) over the last 12 months, with an increase of 10,1%. Non-food sales remain marginal between 7 and 8% of the total sales, dry food reduced 1,6 points from 57,3% to 55,7% over the last 12 months at CA Axtra retail. CP Extra private and exclusive labels are the second key driver of the growing revenues. They achieved 19 billion Baht (€513 million) annually and progressed +4.4%.


Ranked number one in Thailand grocery e-commerce

According to Euromonitor in 2024 Lotus and Makro online sales now represent 59% of the grocery e-commerce in Thailand. The overall onmi-channel sales grew 27,2% between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2024 to reach 25,2 billion Bath (680 million euros). The Online sales alone made via Lotus and Makro web and apps grew 38% to reach 11 billion Baht (297 million euros). The Omni channel sales of Lotus and Makro include the online shopping, the mobile app, smartone-B2B sales team, chat & shop, Line OA and partner platforms.
