Luxembourg based distributor Grosbusch SARL changes plastics to recyclable packaging and invites others to join
A family company, Grosbusch SARL, specialises in importing and distributing fruit and vegetables in Luxembourg and the Greater Region, announced to reduce the use of plastic in its packaging to a minimum.
After 6 months of work and considerable investment, the company has chosen solution for providing maximum protection for the fruit and vegetables and minimum use of plastic.
“Most of our organic and conventional products are now packed in new, certified cardboard packaging that is 100% FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, i.e. made from responsible, biodegradable sources guaranteeing sustainable forest management. In addition, with the aim of reducing excessive packaging and therefore limiting our impact on the environment, the product sales information is printed directly on the cardboard using water-based ink. This avoids having to use extra labels involving more glue and paper”, - explains Goy Grosbusch.
Products whose shape and size make them unsuitable for 100% cardboard, Grosbusch will from now on place in an FSC certified cardboard tray and wrap in fully recyclable plastic film to offer greater freshness and protection. Alongside this, distributor has launched a new range of nets made of biodegradable, 100% compostable wool for certain clearly-defined products.
“With this new, totally recyclable packaging, we’ll be able to reduce our annual plastic consumption by over 20 tons!” – excites Mr. Grosbusch and appeals to others: “Join us in our commitment and help support the planet”.
In line with this ecological initiative, the company will be paying close attention to any innovations and alternatives to plastic that may be proposed in the future.
