New durian facility launched in Malaysia to curb price swings

The move aims to ensure year-round availability and price stability for local and export markets.
To address price fluctuations caused by seasonal surpluses, Malaysia has established a new durian collection and processing centre in Johor. A joint initiative by the Johor State Government and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), the facility — located in Tangkak — will regularly purchase durians from growers in Tangkak, Muar, and Segamat for freezing or processing.
The move aims to ensure year-round availability and price stability for local and export markets, particularly during peak harvests from June to August. The centre, already partially operational, will handle multiple varieties including Musang King, D13, IOI, Bamboo Kick, Black Thorn, and Golden Phoenix.
It is set to become fully operational later this year, supplying frozen and processed durians consistently throughout the year — including top-grade fruit previously reserved mainly for export.
