EUROCASTA 2018, the 9th European Chestnut Congress

The purpose of the 2 days of the Congress is the collaboration of the producing regions to defend the sector and to put in place joint strategies for the transfer of knowledge and works.
EUROCASTA 2018 will take place from 13 to 15 September in Plasencia (Cáceres), Spain.
EUROCASTA 2018 is part of the 2nd Bioeconomy Meeting of the Junta de Extremadura with the following focus:
- Present to the chestnut sector, farmers and commercial companies, the reality of the sector at the level of production, trade and processing,
- To deepen the new techniques of culture as models to follow and to implement in the region,
- To expose the cooperative model as an example of success in the transfer of the value chain to the primary sector,
- Show the daily work of the packaging factory of the Valle del Jerte Cooperative Association,
- Show the latest advances in chestnut growth north of Cáceres,
- Promote collaboration between the producing regions,
- Defend the sector by establishing common knowledge and transfer strategies.
These European meetings have an annual character, organized by the AREFLH (Assembly of European Regions of Fruits, Vegetables and Horticoles) since 2010, European association created in the year 2000 on the initiative of a group of Spanish, French and Italian regions.
