Organic agriculture is gaining ground in Germany

Organic vegetable areas increased by 15% according to AMI data (Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft) now occupying 1/10ths of the area dedicated to vegetables.
These AMI data, based on figures from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, show that the area of organic vegetables increased by 15% last year totaling 12 400 hectares.
As regards these areas, about 30% is devoted to carrots and root vegetables, nearly 25% to salads and asparagus. The rest is dedicated to legumes, pumpkins and cabbages.
In 2016, German producers of organic vegetables recorded a record harvest of 283 879 tonnes.
