The volumes of fruit and berries harvested this year in Ukraine could decrease by about 25% compared to last year.
According to the Ukrainian Association of Agrarian Export, the season will certainly be less fruitful than the previous one. Due to adverse weather conditions, a rainy spring, then drought situations with thunderstorms, hail and rapid temperature changes.
The apple crop could fall by 30% as expected. According to the Association, apple production was 655,000 tonnes last year but this year only 460,000 tonnes are expected.
For stone fruit, the 2018 crop totaled 45,000 tonnes, this year the harvest could reach 38,000 tonnes.
For berries, the Association anticipates this year about 23,000 tons instead of the 26,000 tons harvested last year. Only blueberry production is forecast to increase, with 4,000 tonnes this year (3,000 tonnes in 2018).
