Ecuadorian morete pulp arrives for the first time in Peru
VU
Morete (Mauritia flexuosa) is a nutrient-rich fruit native to the Amazon rainforest, widely consumed by indigenous communities for its health benefits and cultural significance.
Ecuador has taken an important step in the expansion of its agroexport sector with the first shipment of morete (aguaje) pulp to Peru, an Amazonian fruit with high nutritional value and traditionally consumed by indigenous communities. A total of ten tons were exported, marking a milestone in the development of the local bioeconomy.
The success of this export has been possible thanks to the collaboration between indigenous communities, government institutions, international cooperation and the private sector. Since 2019, the initiative has been led by the Pachamama Foundation and the AJE Group, with the support of the Ministry of Production, the Prefecture of Pastaza and the French Development Agency.
One of the key actors in this process is the Murialdo Association of Naranjilla and Amazonian Fruit Growers (Apnafam), made up of 21 families, who have worked on processing and exporting the product. In addition to its economic impact, the project seeks to promote the conservation of the morete and promote the reforestation of palm trees in the area.
