Melavì, an agricultural cooperative in the province of Sondrio (Italy), signed an agreement with Factorit, in order to allow contributing farmers to collect credits on the 2022 harvest within the month of January.
The Factorit company is a member of the Banking Group Banca Popolare di Sondrio and is an important player in the factoring market with more than 2,000 clients.
The company disburses the loan from Melavì's warehouse. Its profitability is related to accounts receivable, assigned to the factoring company that, through its lines of credit, anticipates collections from large retail customers, obtained from future sales of Valtellina apples harvested in 2022.
This innovative agreement allows the 230 companies associated with Melavì to collect overdue credits related to apples transferred from January. In turn, Melavì will be able to concentrate on the promotion and sale of apples and derived products.
General Director and General Manager of Banca Popolare di Sondrio, Mario Alberto Pedranzini, commented that the agreement with Melavì is the result of a synergistic activity between the structures of the Cooperative and those of the banking group. Mr. Pedranzini emphasized that this cooperation promotes the application of integrated production methods for the benefit of the environment.
President of Melavì Bruno Delle Coste, stressed that this agreement helped them activate financial support in favor of the Cooperative, which, through the improvement of the product in stock, allows advance payments to its members as early as the beginning of January, which results in economic availability that they can use to face the next campaign.
Thanks to the support of Melavì Cooperative technicians, the partners grow apples with an integrated production method, adopting better cultivation techniques aimed at minimizing environmental impact. From August to mid-October, around 13,000 tons of fruit are harvested, which the partners deliver to Melavì's offices throughout the Valtellina area, where they are subsequently selected and packaged before sale.
