Tunisia wishes to get ready for the challenges of tomorrow by a better management of the sector of the irrigated agriculture
To meet better the future challenges, Tunisia wishes a better management of its resources and an agriculture "adapted to climate change ".
The water will be at the center of all the actions, as the implementation of a global strategy dedicated to the promotion of the sector of the irrigated agriculture, with the release of the irrigated perimeters, the choice of new means, as well as the improvement of the production.
The objective is to develop these irrigated perimeters so that they reach 50 % of the national agricultural production. These irrigated areas extend over about 405 thousand hectares and consume 80 % of the hydraulic resources.
To manage better water resources and avoid the wasting, it was decided that the Agricultural Land Agency (AFA) will examine the situation of all the irrigated perimeters, and is going to create an agency of economy of the water.
