Do not miss Sumo Citrus season!
According to Sumo Citrus' Press Release, Sumo Citrus are expected to be among the tastiest fruit of 2021.
Sumo Citrus, one of the largest and sweetest mandarins in the world, originated in Japan in the 1970s, where it became known as the “decopon” due to its distinctive top knot. Since then, the fruit has made its way to the United States, to be grown by California growers, leading to its enormous size and incredible flavor.
Scott Owens, General Manager for Sumo Citrus, said that tremendous work and dedication goes into each fruit: "Our expert growers go above and beyond to ensure the highest quality possible and this year is no different."
Right now, ripened Sumo Citrus are waiting to be carefully hand-harvested from California trees. They will be available in stores across the country by early January until April (only for four months out of the year).
Thanks to its top knot, Sumo Citrus is easily recognizable. Known for its sweetness and texture, the fruit is enormous, easy to peel, seedless and not messy. This healthy snack will keep immune system boosted, which is more important than ever this winter. Sumo Citrus packs 163% of the RDA of Vitamin C along with 3g of dietary fiber.
Every year, Owens noted, the hype and anticipation of Sumo Citrus season surpasses the previous one. "After months of hard work, we are hoping this crop can add a little bit of extra joy for our customers who need it most," he concluded.
Sumo Citrus is derived from Pomelo, Navel and Mandarin. The fruit meets the highest standards for size and taste. It is easy to peel, super sweet and seedless, making it the perfect snack without the mess. Available throughout the United States annually from January to April.
