Chile and China simplify fresh-fruit export procedures

A new Chile-China memorandum has entered into force with changes designed to make phytosanitary procedures for Chilean fresh-fruit exports more flexible, announced Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service, SAG.

One change concerns cherries and stonefruit originating from areas regulated for Mediterranean fruit fly: exporters will have more packaging alternatives available. The agreement also extends cold treatment carried out in ship holds during transit to all fruit species already authorised for the Chinese market.

Other measures add new cold-treatment schemes based on international phytosanitary standards and simplify shipment identification. In particular, requirements linked to inspection certificates for pallets have been removed.

The memorandum resulted from technical negotiations between Chile’s SAG and China’s General Administration of Customs. Chile approved it through Resolution No. 566/2026.
