Italy confirms its 1st place

On 1 241 PDO , PGI and TSG products recognized by the EU , 266 are Italian. Of these 103 belong to the category fruits, vegetables and grains.

Italy confirms its first place in Europe in number of PDO, PGI and TSG products. 1241 products on which the European Union has granted recognition PDO ( Protected Designation of Origin ) , PGI ( Protected Geographical Indication) and TSG ( Traditional Speciality Guaranteed ) not less than 266 are Italian (21.4%) , against 217 french (17.4%) , 179 Spanish (14.4% ), 125 Portuguese (10.1%) and 78 German (6.3%).

Category fruits , vegetables and cereals dominates with 339 products (27.3% ) to that of cheese , 223 (18% ) . These figures place the references Italian fruits , vegetables and grains enjoying quality signs ahead of the 58 Spanish references, 47 French(13.9% of the total category at the European level and 21.6 % of total French production recognized ) , the Greek 42, 25 Portuguese and 20 German references (5.9% of total category at the European level , 25.6 % of German products recognized by a sign of quality).
