Expected improvement for the production of mangoes
FJ
In Senegal, the losses in mango production, because of whitefly attacks are estimated at 20-30% of the production.
This estimate is advanced by the Federal cooperative of Senegal Horticulture actors. According to cooperatives from 90 000 to 120 000 tons annual production of mangoes, only tens of thousands of tons are exported and the rest of the production was not marketed, is lost due to the short duration of the campaign (3 months), and the rainy season.
In 2013, the country exported 11,500 tons of mangoes, and could improve the volume this year. A plan of global struggle, funded with support from the European Union, is set up in several countries. Producers consider it necessary as a support having failed to eradicate evil.
The fruit fly that attacks mainly mango, made ??its appearance in 2004 in Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
