Lemon season in Chile is started

As reported by the Chilean Citrus Committee (ASOEX), the 2021 lemons campaign began in week 15, with the Eureka, Messina, and Genova varieties. The first shipments departed in week 19. By week 21, total export volume reached 4.029 tons, about 63% destined to the Far East and 37% to the United States.
49 tons of exports to the Far East went to China, 271 tons to South Korea, and 2.227 tons to Japan.
Meanwhile, 1.473 tons departed to the United States, and 9 tons to Latin America.
Shipments accumulated at week 21 are 16 % higher than the previous season.
The export volume of lemons is projected to reach 98.000 tons, which is a 3% increase compared to the previous season.
The area planted with citrus in Chile is 22.000 hectares, distributed from the IV to the VI region and 7.376 hectares correspond to lemons, mainly planted by the Eureka, Fino 49, Messina and Genova varieties.
