Çanakkale tomato infected with an unknown virus

The area of Canakkale , above Izmir in north- western Turkey , produces a variety of tomato popular among consumers. This season , however tomatoes are affected by a disease that softened and shows spots on the fruit. This has resulted in lower prices and damaged fruits are used as animal fodder.
Experts from the Regional Directorate of Food, Agriculture and Livestock took samples in different parcels to send them to the Directorate of the Institute of Agricultural Research Intervention in Izmir to determine what virus it is and to find an effective way to avoid it . On the other hand , controls are intensified on site to prevent the virus spreading. They also warn farmers not to use pesticides unapproved by administering.
